Survey Twitter users make more money and are more educated

Survey Twitter users make mora money and are more educatedSurvey Twitter users make more money and are more educatedA new nationally representative survey of 2,791 U.S. adult Twitter users directed by The Pew Research Center begs we reexamine what we think we know about the internets most toxic platform.Twitter has been the mascot for internet rage for as long as I can remember. Before reviewing the study, if you were to ask me to assign three adjectives to the average Tweeter, none of them would have been printable. But, as the data reveals, the famous the classic, halitosis carrying, internet addicted, five reasons why the movie you liked was worse than cancerarchetype actually accounts for a tiny minority. For the most part, Twitter is composed of affluent well-educated adults, that only Tweet a modest two times a month.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreThe active minorityThe 10 % of users that Tweet regularly tend to do so about politics. Sixty-nine percent of the US adults that identified themselves as active tweeters said the majority of their tweets were political in nature. This same 10% is responsible for the vast majority of tweets that occupy the site-with the median number of tweets amongst this demo being 138 per month (nearly 80% of Twitter content created by all U.S. adults on Twitter). In addition to boasting the most distinct attitudes, prolific tweeters are more likely to be women.Comparatively, the remaining 90% of users reported taking to Twitter to discuss politics much less often than the strident minority. Thirty-nine percent of this 90% said that they discuss political issues on Twitter, and only 13% reported doing so in the last 30 days.Another surprising find revealed by The Pew Researcher Centers survey suggests that the majority of Twitter as a whole are much more liberal than the average US citizen, particularly when it comes to ra ce and immigration. The survey reports, Specifically, nearly two-thirds (63%) of Twitter users ages 18 to 49 identify as Democrats or lean toward the Democratic Party, compared with the 55% of 18- to 49-year-olds who identify the same way. Among older users, these differences are similar. Moreover, the average Twitter user makes more money and is more educated than the majority of American adults.Relative to the general population, Twitter users are much more likely to have received some kind of college education. For instance, about 42% of Twitter users have at least a bachelors degree, compared to 31% of average US adults. Based on this data, it stands to reason that tweeters also tend to make more money. Forty-one percent of Twitter users reported an annual income of $75,000 or above. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily sc hedule that will ersatzdarsteller your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people

9 Innovations in Solar PV Technology

9 Innovations in Solar PV Technology 9 Innovations in Solar PV Technology 9 Innovations in Solar PV TechnologyWhen we think of solar panels, chances are we think of roofs or giant arrays of glimmering panels in the desert. However, advances in photovoltaic (PV) technologies over the last decade have made possible many more smaller-scale applications for everyday living, on a more personal level. Improvements in entwurf and configuration, energy storage, efficiency, and battery size have created opportunities for solar energy in a variety of situations, some of which you have probably not consideredincluding off-grid scenarios that can help you survive emergency situations. Below are nine examples of innovative, low-cost ways solar energy is being used to enhance our daily lives.StreetlightsMore cities across the world are powering streetlights with solar energy. The sun charges the batteries during the day, which then powers light-emitting diodes (LEDs) at night to illuminate the str eets. San Diego is incorporating smart sensors into streetlights that can even direct drivers to open parking spaces and help first responders during emergency situations. Combining internet-linked sensors with solar powered streetlights saves both time and money.Vaccine RefrigeratorsIn developing countries, 24-hour electricity isnt guaranteed, and in many cases, there is no electrical grid. Private companies have been manufacturing solar-powered vaccine refrigerators so healthcare workers in remote areas can administer critical medication to those who need it, states Charlie Gay, director of the Solar Energy Technologies Office for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). This technology solution has been saving lives for more than four decades.Parabolic solar cooker. Solar cookers can be parabolic orsquare structures lined with a reflective materie that direct s the rays into the box, where it heats the food evenly. The lid on top is typically made out of glass to better focus the suns rays. They are ideal for off-grid living and often used in developing countries, which reduces air pollution that results from burning fuel.Cell-Phone ChargerUSB cell phone chargers can charge a phone to almost full after only a few hours exposure to UV sunlight. These portable solar panels are about the size of a tablet and can also charge GPS trackers, tablets, or even laptops. They can be hooked on backpacks to collect solar energy as you walk, making them ideal for outdoor excursions.PaintInstead of constructing typical solar cells of silicon, polymers dissolved in a solvent create a paint or coating that can be applied to any surface from homes to offices to cars, writes technology writer Stephanie Hicks on Hub Pages. Its inexpensive and versatile. Unlike bulky photovoltaic solar panels, solar paint uses thin-film nanoparticles instead of silicon as s olar conductors. When applied to the sides of structures that face the sun, the thin solar cells invisibly generate clean, green power.Orange solar tents. Image Kaleidoscope AnimationsTentsSolar-powered tents are essentially larger versions of solar-powered backpacks. The tents have imbedded photovoltaic cells that store solar energy by day, which is then used to illuminate the tent at night and charge or power devices and small appliances, including heaters. The U.S. Army has a version that can generate up to 2 kilowatts of power a day.Bike LocksThe Ellipse Skylock is the worlds first solar-powered bike lock. It powered by a built-in solar panel that provides enough power for a week after just one hour of charging. The Skylock connects wirelessly to the riders phone to provide keyless entry, theft detection, bike sharing, and crash alerts. It also sends an alert if the bike is disturbed, using its long-range Bluetooth.BackpacksThin-film solar panels attached to the outside of backp acks provide up to about four watts of powerenough to charge phones, cameras, and other devices while simply walking. These exterior solar cells can also be attached to briefcases and handbags. These backpacks are ideal for students, hikers, and campers, who will always have a charged device during their travels, or when they reach their destination.Solar FabricSolar fabric is an application of solar technology with a wide range of applications. Solar cells are woven into textile fibers and generate convenient solar electricity. One version, created by FTL Solar, can literally be pitched like a tent to provide both shelter and electricity, writes Hicks. Consider the endless possibilities military, rescue operations, disaster relief, recreational options, medical units, and even temporary housing. Any distributionspolitik you need flexible convenient solar power, solar fabric is your answer.Rooftops are just one of thousands of places where solar panels are generating power, says Gay . As costs drop and energy production rises, we expect to see many more places where solar technologies are put to workproviding unleashed, inexpensive electricity.Mark Crawford is an independent writer. Love Is Blind and 5 Other Ways to Find True Love With Your Job SearchLove Is Blind and 5 Other Ways to Find True Love With Your Job SearchDating websites, matchmakers, love gurus, talk show hosts and even psychics spend countless hours talking about love. At Simply Hired we believe that almost as important as finding a person to love is finding a job that you love. Did you leave your belastung role of your own accord but are struggling to find your next opportunity? If youve been out of work for an extended period of time it can be easy to begin to look upon your last job with rose-colored glasses. When you start to feel that nostalgia take over, take a deep breath and remind yourself of the facts behind your departure. Try writing a list of the pros and cons of your last position and focus on the opportunity you have in front of you. You can now find a job that you truly love.2.There are plenty of fish in the seaJob search can be a grueling and exhausting process, particularly if youre waiting to hear back from companies where youve applied or interviewed. Dont despair. There truly are plenty of fish in the sea, and the right one is out there for you. In fact, Simply Hired offers six million jobs in 974,000 occupations. Even Shakespeare knew that. Just like in love, a career path is just thata path. This path will turn suddenly, wind slowly and sometimes meet an obsta cle that you have to climb over. Remember you are not alone. Even celebrities have been at the mercy of the fickle hands of job search. Martha Stewart, the first lady of entertaining herself, has had an interesting path moving from being a child model to working on Wall Street and now running her own housewares empire, with a prison stint thrown in for good measure. Take one step at a time, and youll find that eventually you find what youre looking for.4.Love is blindYouve been looking for a job for a while, and after a few interviews with a new company you think youve found your dream job. Stop. Slow down. Try to maintain a balanced view of your new love. Dont rush into things. Love should never be blind, especially when it comes to the love of a new job that you havent gotten yet. Its important to know exactly what youre signing up for when accepting a position so that you arent disappointed.5.Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at allWere not sure where thi s came from, but we couldnt disagree more.
